Registry

At the beginning of this week, I decided that I would delve into the world of baby registration.  I started with three tabs open.  One was Pinterest, the second was an email of my good friend's registry for her first baby, and the third was Target.

I desperately searched Pinterest for a "simple but thorough" registry.  I should have known better.  I found a concise list, but when I turned my attention to Target and my friend's two year old registry, I realized something: Somewhere along the line people have started making a million different types of pacifiers, bottles, swings, cribs, etc.

I knew that I needed/wanted the basics, but how am I supposed to guess what this small being is going to prefer when they get into this world?  Needless to say, I spent an hour clicking back and forth between the lists I found on Pinterest and Target before I realized that I was thoroughly overwhelmed.  Target was beautifully easy to navigate, but there was just so much to choose from that I didn't know where to start, which led to me jumping from category to category, which then led to me being thoroughly confused as to what I had accomplished and what I still needed.

Of course the hubby during all of this was dutifully answering questions, making suggestions, and doing his best to feign interest, but it was clearly difficult to start and finish the registry completely online.

I did find some great items that we are really excited about getting!  The actual baby stuff comes recommended from one of my good friends who had a baby in the past year, and the stroller I have seen in action and really couldn't imagine anything else.  All items can be found on Target.com, and we plan to continue the registry in person this weekend!

Weeks 12-15

Over the past month, I have been diligently keeping photographic evidence that I am indeed pregnant even though after about 12 weeks, my "symptoms" have pretty much cleared up.  I got the inspiration for the chalkboards from an amazing blog (http://littlebabygarvin.blogspot.com/) that I have been following for about a year, and I absolutely adore the idea of keeping track of my pregnancy like this...even if watching my belly pooch out makes me nauseous all on its own!

Surprise! The Cable Family is expecting!

Welcome!

Over the last year, hubby and I happily decided we were ready to step into the realm of parenthood.  I know, what in the world were we thinking!? We both work full time as teachers at the local high school, and many in our families would have thought we would never entertain the idea of children after dealing with other people's teenagers on a daily basis.  Damn that infernal biological clock! :-)

In this hyper-digital age, I felt it only appropriate to document this stage of our lives through this digital media.  It will not only give me an outlet to complain and brag, but I also believe it will give my family, who all live 600+ miles away, the opportunity to feel involved in the process in some small way.  It will also keep my Facebook friends from being overwhelmed with a thousand pictures of my baby bump and subsequent pictures of the child.

So here we are, about 4 months into the journey and very much looking forward to walking through this next stage of our life together.  After being together through the other major milestones: high school, high school graduation, college, college graduation, and beginning our first professional job, this can't be too tough...right...?
