This is a bit late since things have been fairly hectic around here. At the beginning of this week, my aunt, my uncle, my grandma, my brother and his wife and kids came to visit. At the end of this week, my husband's father, his stepmother, and his grandmother came to visit. It has been wonderful introducing our son to his family, but I'm so ready for a few days to just relax and enjoy our new little family unit before my husband goes back to work later this week.
Thankfully, this week we did not have to go to the pediatrician every other day for heel sticks to check his jaundice levels. The nurse practitioner gave us the go ahead to give the bili blanket back at the beginning of this week, and we were ecstatic! However, at our two week appointment, she still wanted us to come back at a month post birth for a weight check since he's still such a little peanut. We also had an abnormal result on the T4 test that was given during his newborn screenings. That retest was given when we went on Monday, and we are just awaiting the results. Of course, when you Google search the T4 abnormality, it is enough to scare your pants off! T4 has something to do with the thyroid gland, so basically a low result could indicate congenital hypothyroidism. While the disorder is fairly easy to treat after diagnosis, a quick diagnosis is really important in order to avoid some pretty serious issues. When I spoke to the nurse earlier this week, she indicated that false positives are somewhat common, so a retest was fairly normal, and we shouldn't panic. This was also paired with the fact that his TSH level (another thyroid/pituitary indicator) came back normal, so they sounded pretty confident that a retest would show normal levels of the T4. We should have the results within a week, so I'm really trying not to stress out until we do hear back.
Every day existence is going so well...I'm not finding myself beyond exhausted during the day time even though we are still really trying to maintain feedings at a 2 hour interval. I am also still having to set alarms to wake up in the middle of the night to feed him, and I'm really glad that my husband is home to allow me to take a few naps throughout the day. We also get some really great snuggles in bed from about 7 am - 9 am! I know many people would disagree, but a newborn nestled in your arms makes for a great napping partner! Don't worry though, the covers are only over his little legs, and I make sure that his face is nowhere near covers or pillows while we snuggle.
I can't get over how awesome the past two weeks have been; it's like he's been with us forever!
Milestones: Getting up to and past his birth weight and getting rid of the bili blanket at the beginning of this week! He's also getting really good at picking up his head and looking around. Also, finally being done with heel sticks...hopefully! Oh! Lochlan's head grew half an inch this week too!
Sleep: He's still sleeping like a rock, and I still have to set alarms to wake him at night to eat. Many times he falls asleep in the middle of feedings, which is a little disconcerting, but we are muddling our way through!
Eating: We're having some breastfeeding issues right now on my end of things with supply. The demand is definitely there, but I think I've stressed my supply to nil in the last few days because of the pressure of getting him back to his birth weight by the end of the second week and because of the abnormal T4 test.
Mood: He's pretty laid back and is really an easy baby for the most part, but he does make his needs known when he's not getting what he wants quickly enough.
Likes: Being held and snuggled in the morning after his 7 or 8 o'clock feeding. He also just likes being snuggled in general. He also doesn't seem to mind baths too much.
Dislikes: Waiting for his food. He still gets really angry that he has to work to latch and get his food while breastfeeding.
Things I want to remember: I want to remember how he just stares at my face while he's eating or snuggling. It's also great to know that sometimes all he wants is to snuggle with mommy! I also want to remember how enamored my husband is with him. There are times throughout the day where he just wants to hold Lochlan and talk to him, and it's downright ADORABLE and just melts my heart to mush!
Looking forward to: I'm really looking forward to our one month weight check...still trending upward on the growth chart and working on breastfeeding until we are successful.

Lochlan's Nursery
We were really ecstatic about the final product, and I couldn't have asked for a better final piece. It really made the nursery just come together and feel finished. If you're looking for a vinyl wall piece, I highly suggest In An Instant Art on Etsy.

Each piece was separate and had to be positioned JUST right to make the whole piece come together. Thanks a million to my wonderful husband who spent so much time and patience putting this together!

The trees were separate pieces and so were the branches!

Here's the rest of the nursery:

I love the little owl picture that my mom bought me, and I want two more to fill up the wall on the left. We also still need to replace (maybe) the blinds with blackout blinds and the shade.

Please excuse the clutter on the bookshelves. They need to be reorganized!

Hello, handsome!
Welcome to the world, Little Lochlan!

Lochlan Edward born on July 12, 2014 at 11:47 am 6lbs and 19 3/4 inches
It is safe to say that the last week has been unbelievable! There have been many moments when I cannot believe that I am a mom to the most perfect little nugget! Through everything, I am so glad that my mom just happened to be here for his birth. It was great to have two people to be there supporting me both during the labor and delivery process, but also during the first few days at home. She just happened to be in town with me since my husband was on a work trip in New Orleans. We had just picked him up at the airport on Friday evening, so we were also very lucky that he was actually home for this little nugget's arrival. Look for more on that adventure when I post our birth story later next week.
We came home on Monday, and saw his pediatrician for the first time on Tuesday afternoon. We came home knowing that his bilirubin levels were elevated, and that he had a "slight" case of jaundice, but we had no idea that they were as high as they were until we went to the pediatrician. They took a forehead scan of his levels, and it came back as an 8.7, but the doctor requested that we do a blood test to be sure. I'm really glad that we did (even though the heel stick and draw was just unbelievably awful) because his blood levels came back at a 14.7! The office had a bili blanket delivered to the house, and Lochlan is supposed to be on that 24-7. We did the second draw at the local medical center on Friday, and the levels were down to 14.5. We had a third draw done at the peds today, and we are down to 13! The nurse practitioner we saw today was also very concerned that his weight was down 2 ounces since his first weigh in, so we are decreasing feeding intervals to every two hours and increasing volume from 1 oz. to 2 oz. plus nursing. I'm hoping that my little piggie will have his weight up a few ounces by his appointment on Monday afternoon.

1 Week Update
Sleep: For now, he's sleeping like a champ. Part of that is because of the jaundice, so I'm sure next week will be a totally different story. I've had to set alarms at night so that we wake up and gets to eat. Right now, he's sleeping in about 2-2 1/2 hour stretches.
Eating: My milk came in a few days ago, but with him being a "late term preemie," we have had to supplement with formula. Nursing is going much better now that he has something to satisfy him when he sucks, so I'm hoping we won't have to supplement for too much longer as long as he gains weight. He's a champ when it comes to eating from the bottle though, so I'm not anticipating any major problems nursing on his end of things.
Mood: When Lochlan wants something, he definitely lets you know! We had a 24-36 hour stretch of crankiness, but we changed formula, and things are going much better. I think we had a bout of constipation from the original formula.
Likes: Staring at mommy and daddy and snuggling skin to skin
Dislikes: Working at latching on to the breast. There is a very small window between hungry and "damn it woman, give me my food!"
Things I want to remember: I want to remember how great it was to bring this little nugget home, and how awesomely my husband and I are at working together to provide for this little guy. I really want to remember how much of a great team we make. I really hit the jackpot in the husband department. He is an amazing father.
Looking forward to: I'm really looking forward to (and dreading) watching him develop over the next month! I'm also looking forward to him not having to go to the doctor every two days for a bilirubin screening and weight check.

36 Week Update...or so we thought!
Obviously this was supposed to be finished and posted by last Saturday afternoon, but someone had other plans for his mommy and daddy this weekend! Our little nugget decided that he wanted to see his Mamaw, so he came 23 days early! Unfortunately, I don't have a 36 week picture since I planned to take that on Saturday, July 12th...but I did type up my weekly update.
How far along: 36 weeks, 4 days
Gender: Boy!
Weight gain: +28
Maternity clothes: Yes, they are all that fit at this point!
Stretch marks: I spoke too soon last week. I noticed about two days later that I had a few, small, angry red marks on my hips and lower belly. No bueno!
Belly button in or out: It's almost flat!
Wedding rings on or off: On...I've been really lucky, and I have not been swelling.
Sleep: Fairly decent. I'm getting up a lot to pee, and my hips have been achy off and on, but I'm sleeping really well about 9 hours each night.
Best moment this week: My momma came to visit while the hubby on a work trip in New Orleans, and we organized my entire house and finished the nursery (except for the vinyl decal).
Miss anything: I would LOVE a frozen margarita.
Food cravings: I wanted a frosty like MAD on Tuesday night! << I had to change "queasy or sick" this week to this since I actually WANTED something!
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy, but definitely getting a bit anxious!
Labor signs: None
Movement: This nugget apparently adores pushing himself into my left rib cavity. Hubs laughed at me the other day because my belly was lopsided. A few times over the last couple of days I think he was pushing his butt to the right and shoving his feet in my ribs, or vice versa. It's not what one would call "comfortable."
Looking forward to: Getting my vinyl and finishing that part of the nursery since it's the last thing that we need to do!
I will be continuing this blog with our first week Baby C update, the promised nursery preview, our birth story, and then weekly Baby C posts until 2 months. After 2 months, I think I'll stick to monthly updates.

35 Weeks
EXACTLY one month until Little Nugget's ETA!

Home Alone
For now, I continue to document the easy part of parenting!
How far along: 35 weeks, 4 days
Gender: Boy!
Weight gain: +28
Maternity clothes: Definitely the only thing (other than dresses) that I will fit in at this point!
Stretch marks: Nope, and I'm really hoping that at this point they just never show up!
Bellybutton in or out: In, but definitely not by much this week.
Wedding rings on or off: On
Sleep: Last night I was a bit restless, but I'm hoping that was just a fluke. I've been sleeping so soundly so far that I really would hate for the last few weeks to not be good in the sleep department.
Best moment this week: Finally clearing all of the boxes out of the nursery and having it look semi-presentable. Also, narrowing down what else we still need and ordering it when my "completion discounts" kick in for my registries! :-D Also, dinner with some of my favorite people tonight!
Miss anything: Not so much this week...well, I guess I miss being able to breathe after I eat...my stomach is definitely squished.
Happy or moody most of the time: Pretty happy...
Movement: The movement has started to feel like more rolling and less distinct kicks. Except for last night, the hubby and I were snuggling on the couch, and hubs definitely got a swift kick to the side of the head!
Queasy or sick: A bit yucky feeling off and on, but nothing terrible.
Looking forward to: Ordering the last few things from the registries and of course this little nugget making his arrival in a month (or a bit less)!
