Four Month Update!

This past month has been just as much of a whirlwind as ever, but every day coming home to my sweet boy makes all of the stress at work seem silly.  I have so much to look forward to this month that I can't keep it all straight!  We have Lochlan's four month appointment on Monday the 17th, I turn 28 *GULP* next Saturday, we're going on our first date night to a Flogging Molly concert at an amazing venue next Friday, and nugget's first Thanksgiving is in 2 weeks.  I can't wait to do an update after Thanksgiving and we put up and decorate our Christmas tree.

Weight: approximately 14 lbs. (official weight: 13 lbs. 5 oz.)
Length: approximately 24 1/2 in. (official length: 25 in.)

Milestones: We have quite a few milestones this update!
Lochlan's rolling (sometimes) belly to back.  We're having a lot of back and forth rolling when he's on his back, but he's not really working on rolling back to belly yet.  Any time he does roll to his side, his darn arm keeps getting in the way!  He does enjoy sleeping on his side though (even though it terrifies me), and as a result, we have had to move him to his crib in the nursery about a month earlier than I really wanted.
He officially found his toes towards the end of last week too.  I'm talking--full on, knows his toes are connected to his body, his hands can grab them, and he wants to eat them!
He is also grabbing at things, holding on to them, and bringing them to his mouth.
He laughed at me ONCE a couple of weeks ago but hasn't done it since.  Apparently, he laughs at daycare, he giggled at the hubs a few nights ago, and he was laughing in his sleep this past weekend, but he won't laugh at me.  Turd.
Sleep: Since he's been in his crib, he's getting up more throughout the night, but I guess that's to be expected since he has so much more room than normal now.  He's moving around and waking himself up.  He's down to about 3 naps per day, and they're about 40 minutes each.  For some reason tonight it took him an hour to fall asleep.  :-(
Eating: We bumped up to 6.5 oz. for the first time all day yesterday, and it threw his schedule off a lot.  He went about 4-5 hours in between bottles instead of 3, but he only ate 30 oz. total, so I'm not sure what to do to increase his intake, or if I should even worry about it.  Today's schedule was much better, but he still only ate 32 oz.
I don't think we're anywhere near ready to start solids, but we'll see what the pediatrician says this coming Monday.  Personally, I would like to wait until 5 1/2 or 6 months, but who knows!  He's still fully satisfied with the formula or breast milk, so I don't see any reason to rush him to eat solids.
Mood: He's generally a happy baby, but he's very determined and serious at times.
Likes: He LOVES bath time, being naked, playing on his mat, and sitting up to watch the colors on the TV.  He also loves smiling at you and waiting for you to make eye contact.
Dislikes: He hates having the hiccups!  It makes him so angry, and it's adorable.

Things I want to remember: I want to remember how quickly he's developing; how quickly he's becoming a little person.  One day he will sporadically do something, and then two days later it's a consistent thing--like finding his feet; at first he was getting them but not quite realizing that they were his and connected to them, but now he plays with his feet in the bath tub, on the changing table, and when he wakes himself up in the crib.

Looking forward to: Still baby giggles...

Lochlan's First Halloween

"The farther we've gotten from the magic and mystery of our past, the more we've come to need Halloween."

I have always found myself mystified with witches, magick, the changing leaves, and the crisp fall breeze.  Since we moved to South Carolina, I have desperately missed the leaves and the cool weather that I'm so used to after spending most of my life in the North East.  The powers that be must have been a fan of me this week, because cooler weather rolled in to SC over the past few days!  Now, don't get me wrong, I only want weather in the mid 50s and low 60s for a few days before I'm totally okay with our normal high 60s, but you certainly don't feel like it's fall unless it's a bit crisp out there!

As a kid (until I was about 14), we always went to a very close family friend to Trick-or-Treat, so it was always my favorite fall event.  I love Halloween so much that when I got engaged, I was desperate to get married on Halloween.  That definitely didn't work out.  We moved to SC, and we're teachers.  A fall wedding was a no-go. :-(  After having Lochlan, I couldn't wait to prep for his first Halloween!  His Aunt Mimi and Uncle Michael bought him two cute onesies and his Great Mamaw and Mamaw brought down another 2 outfits a few weeks ago. Looking through his closet early this month, I was ecstatic to find that the little nugget would have an outfit for every. single. day.  I was definitely more excited than the hubs, but I think once we started putting on the outfits every morning, he was pleased with the results!

Thursday was a whole day of fun!  We had purchased a pumpkin to carve on Wednesday, but Lochlan decided that he was ready for bed at 6pm, so we had to wait until Thursday to have all of the fun!

I think he loves Halloween as much as his mommy!
We had no idea that it was glow in the dark until later that day.

All done!
So Halloween itself is always quite interesting here.  Many kids are driven around neighborhoods to get candy, and a small handful of kids don't even dress up but expect to get candy.  It's a whole different ball game than I'm used to, but we enjoy it either way.

Can you guess what Lochlan is?

Mike Wazowski!
Thanks again Aunt Mimi and Uncle Michael!

We can't wait until next year!
