Lochlan is Two Months Old!

I know that I had originally promised to do weekly updates until the little man was 8 weeks old, but that ended up being more than I had time for throughout the last month.  Also, not much seemed to change from week to week, but there have definitely been some great changes over the past month!

At the very beginning of Septmember, we FINALLY got some answers about his T4/TSH tests after a visit to the endocrinologist at MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina).  The doctor ordered a third test, which revealed that his TSH levels were now elevated, but his T4 levels were normal.  His official diagnosis is abnormal thyroid levels, and he is on 50 mcg of Levothyroxine each day.  This medication is a synthetic thyroid hormone, and it is used to treat hypothroidism, which is what Lochlan may have.  They did not designate him as having hypothyroidism, but that is what it looks like.  The doctor elected to put him on medication because of how integral the thyroid hormone is for brain development during the first three years of life.  He will go back for a follow up blood test this coming Tueday to check his T4/TSH levels to see if the dosage is appropriate.  After that, I'm not sure what will be recommended, but if it shows his levels have evened out, that will mean he may need to permanently be on the medication to regulate his thyroid levels.  His levels did some weird things, in my opinion, so I'm not sure if they will designate him as hypo or if they will just call it an abnormal thyroid.  Either way, this isn't the end of the world.  If this is something that ends up being lifelong, he will still be able to do everything all of the other kids get to do with no restrictions.  I had a bit of a terrible time with everything in the first 24 hours because I felt so guilty that there was something "wrong" with him, but I very quickly realized there are so many terrible things out there that could TRULY be wrong!  It was also difficult to wrap my mind around because he is so asymptomatic.  He's not gaining an excessive amount of weight.  He's not lethargic.  If anything, he seems to be the opposite.  He eats every two hours and is wide awake like a normal baby!  Regardless, we will medicate him daily until the endocrinologist tells us otherwise.

We had some down time with visits at the end of August, but the first two weeks of September brought two more visits.  One from his Grandma Cable and one from his Mamaw!  Both were so fun, and it was great to watch both grandmas interact with the little guy.

At the end of last week, my mom drove my new car down from home (YAY!), and stayed to hang out with us for a few days.  The first day she got here, she was awesome enough to watch Lochlan while I went to the doctors and finally cashed in the gift certificate my hubby bought me for mother's day for a 30 minute massage!  Talk about a relaxing Friday!  She also watched Lochlan while the hubs and I attempted to have a date night and see "Guardians of the Galaxy."  Unfortunately, there were crazy storms in the area that knocked the power out 20 minutes into the movie.  Since it was a Sunday night, it was already 8:30, and hubby had to be at work in the morning, we had to bail.  They also couldn't guarantee that they could back the movie up to where it went out...seriously?!  The theater gave us movie passes for any movie of our choice in the next few months...but who knows when we'll have a sitter again!  We were also super disappointed because we had heard such great things about the movie and were really looking forward to seeing it in theaters.  While we were gone, she used her awesome Canon digital SLR to take some amazing pictures of my beautifully handsome baby boy!  Enjoy!

**These numbers are definitely approximate.  Our 2 month appointment is tomorrow, so we will have definite numbers by then.  I'll update tomorrow night!

Lochlan is officially 10 lbs. 9 oz. and 22 1/2 inches!

Milestones: He's starting to smile at us when we do something he likes.  I got three distinct smiles yesterday when he was waking up.  He's cooing up a storm and "talking" to you while he does tummy time and plays on his mat.
Sleep: We are working on napping alone throughout the day, and it's going... :-\ This past weekend was better than throughout the last two weeks.  I think throughout last week I was putting him down too early (he wasn't thoroughly tired yet), and I was expecting more than 30 minutes, but I think his mid-morning nap is going to be his long one and the rest will be shorter.  He's sleeping through the night like a champ still--he's only getting up around 1:30 and 5:30, which is perfect because when I go back to work, I can feed him, pump, and then shower in time to leave the house by 7 to drop him off at daycare.
Eating: He's still eating like a champ.  He's eating about 30 oz. each day.  He's spitting up quite a bit lately, and I'm not sure if it's the formula or because he eats the first two ounces so ridiculously quickly.
Mood: I think we're in a fussy stage over the last few days.  It's either that or he's just having some serious reflux that is really bothering him.
Likes: Playing patty cake or the itsy bitsy spider, his mat (sometimes), and he definitely enjoys his bath time!  Tonight, I was holding him while I started his bath, and the second I turned on the water, his eyes lit up and he started to smile.
Dislikes: Being hungry, which is nothing new!

Things I want to remember:

This:

Looking forward to: The next two months and seeing how he keeps changing!  I swear every day he looks different!  I think it's fair to say I'm dreading that same thing as well though!
